Käthe Leichter Prize

The Käthe Leichter Prize goes back to a suggestion of ITH’s founder Herbert Steiner, the first biographer of Käthe Leichter.

From 1991 to 1999 the prizes were awarded during the opening ceremony of the Linz Conferences of ITH. The state prizes were financed by the Austrian Federal Ministries for women’s affairs and for social affairs, the prizes were sponsored by the Austrian National Bank and the Federal Chamber of Labour.

From 2000, the year of the formation of the ÖVP/FPÖ coalition government in Austria, the State Prize of the Ministry for Women’s Affairs was cancelled for austerity reasons, the State Prize of the Ministry for Social Affairs was splitted up into two half prizes.

After an interruption of five years the price was revived in 2005. The state price is now awarded by the Austrian Federal Ministry of Health and Women, the sponsorship prices by Viennese Chamber of Labour, Austrian National Bank and Austrian Federal Ministry of Economy and Work.
