This book discusses practices of Solidarity and Development at international level as authored by social movements, organizations and states acting in the tradition of Labour Movements. International Solidarity is basically perceived as a concept for dealing with others on the basis of common interests and concerns, genuinely rooted in these traditions. International Development is perceived as a transformation of society by means of deliberate active intervention in order to enhance Progress and Modernisation.

The contributions to this volume focus on situations in which practices of Solidarity and Development were implemented by solidarity activists, political internationalists, development workers and international experts by means of material assistance, trade at preferential conditions, personal commitment, collective actions and campaigns. „North-South“ – relations which claimed the labels Solidarity and Development are at the centre of attention. Temporal focus is the era of global systems competition in the second half of the 20th century.
